Safety policy

SafeSport compliance.

How we keep every athlete safe from abuse and misconduct.

Our commitment

Next Wave Hoops is committed to providing a safe, positive, and respectful environment for every athlete. We align our practices with the principles of the U.S. Center for SafeSport, which sets the standard for abuse prevention in youth sport.

Coach training

Before working with any athlete, every coach completes SafeSport-aligned training covering emotional, physical, and sexual misconduct, bullying, hazing, and harassment. Coaches learn to recognize warning signs and to maintain appropriate boundaries with the athletes they train.

Minor athlete protections

  • Individual sessions are held in public, observable settings, school gyms, community centers, and public courts, never behind closed doors.
  • Parents and guardians are always welcome to stay and watch. Many one-on-one sessions are just the coach and the athlete, so an open, visible location is how we keep training safe.
  • Any communication about a minor goes through their parent or guardian, not private one-on-one messaging with the child.
  • Athletes and families can raise a concern at any time, without fear of retaliation.

Reporting misconduct

Any suspected violation can be reported directly to Next Wave Hoops leadership. Reports of sexual misconduct are also referred to the U.S. Center for SafeSport, and reports involving the safety of a child are referred to local authorities as required by law.
