Who is a mandatory reporter

All Next Wave Hoops coaches and staff act as mandatory reporters while working with our athletes. This means we are obligated to report any reasonable suspicion of child abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities.

What we report

  • Suspected physical, emotional, or sexual abuse.
  • Suspected neglect or endangerment.
  • Any disclosure by a child that raises a safety concern.

How we report

When a coach has a reasonable concern, they notify Next Wave Hoops leadership immediately and contact Washington State Child Protective Services (1-866-END-HARM) or local law enforcement. In an emergency, we call 911 first.

Confidentiality

Reports are handled discreetly and shared only with those who need to know to protect the child. We do not retaliate against anyone who makes a good-faith report.
